SKIP-A-BEAT
Awareness Above All
At Skip a beat we focus on helping survivors recovering from a stroke or brain injury. Our goal is to advocate for more attention towards post-stroke brain research because strokes are the fifth leading cause of death and the number one leading cause of disability. Skip- A -Beat aims to educate patients on activities that help improve cognitive functions, fundraise money for more stroke/brain-related research, and while teaching others on how to help reintegrate these individuals back into society. We focus on patients post-injury because it is during this period of time that people need the most help.
ABOUT US
Started by a group of high schoolers after a family member suffered from a stroke they were able to see firsthand the long recovery process that isn't talked about enough. The recovery process is a crucial time that wouldn't be possible without the help of countless individuals and a constant flow of activities that stimulate the brain. Aside from official therapies, many patients aren't educated about the major improvements that can continue to occur through activities as basic as painting.
WHAT WE DO
Making A Difference
VOLUNTEER
We meet with survivors through support groups and typically an hour prior to the support session we work on interactive games that are not only helpful but also fun!
CREATE
Every six months to a year we create support baggies that are given to each survivor with games, comfort items, and helpful tools on navigating life post-stroke.
DONATE
We raise money through walks and bake sales to support the ongoing research and medical breakthroughs that occur.
